Welcome to Poets House

Poets House is a charming hotel in the heart of historic Ely, perfect for leisure breaks, staycations, romantic breaks, conferences, weddings, and celebrations in Cambridgeshire. Perfectly located, the hotel is just five minutes' walk from the city centre and 100 yards from Ely Cathedral (one of the seven medieval wonders of the world).

Originally consisting of three Grade II listed properties of the early 1900s and the home of a renowned local author, Poets House is a uniquely stylish hotel, restaurant, and events venue. Coupling the buildings' original charm with stunningly innovative interiors, Poets House offers the perfect blend of luxury and comfort.

With 21 beautiful bedrooms, some with spectacular views of Ely Cathedral, you will find super-soft Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels, William Holland copper baths, and drenching waterfall showers. Dine al fresco in our beautiful courtyard garden in the summer months or in our beautiful dining room for a romantic dinner.

Our 21 suites provide the perfect place to indulge in a little bit of luxury, offering beautiful period features and wonderful views.

Unwind and relax in one of our stunning waterfall showers, or perhaps enjoy a chilled glass of bubbly in our iconic William Holland copper bathtubs.

Dining

Enjoy dining in our beautiful restaurant or a simple snack in our Sonnet Lounge. We serve food from 9 am until 8.45 pm daily with drinks being served until late. Bookings must be made directly with the hotel with any dietary requirements

Poets House is the perfect venue for a stylish and intimate wedding or celebration and can accommodate between 10-80 guests.

We held our wedding at The Poets House. We booked it a year in advance and worked with the Events Manager to create our very special day. The hotel delivered - and more. It was amazing. The facilities, including the bedrooms, are top class and the staff are incredibly helpful. Indeed, one guest commented that the staff kept smiling throughout and that makes all the difference. When we entered the Writing Room for the wedding breakfast, it had been dressed to perfection and would have done justice to any elite hotel in the world. The food was superb - everyone loved it. But above all, the ambience of this gem of a hotel made it perfect for us. We can not recommend it highly enough.

My husband and I got married and had our reception at Poets House in Ely. The team were extremely attentive and organised, right from when we first looked around to the day after our wedding. We had exclusive use for our wedding, which came with all 21 rooms. We all had a fantastic time and guest were extremely impressed with the rooms and the quality of the food on the day. Breakfast the day after was included for those guests that stayed, and was excellent!

We spent a long time after we got engaged looking for our perfect venue and we were so pleased to find it at Poets House. We had a large Sikh wedding on the Saturday of a bank holiday weekend, followed by a more intimate ceremony and celebration at the lovely Poet's House on the Sunday. It was the ideal size for our 60-something guests and wonderful to have the run of the hotel for a relaxed and fun occasion, as well as the convenience and luxury of having most of our guests staying at the hotel overnight in the beautiful rooms. We first came to Poets House for lunch, and the high quality of the food was a big influence on our making the decision that we'd found the right venue for us. The only difficult part was choosing what to have to eat on our big day because we enjoyed everything at our tasting!

The team at Poets House are fantastic - Christine in particular was so helpful in the run up to the wedding and keeping everything moving on the day. She was happy to accommodate our requests, including for outdoor games in their courtyard - I recommend giant Jenga! - and would always provide a reassuring response to my last minute panics. The team even created table numbers to match my "art deco" theme. I recommend Poets House for any couple looking for an elegant venue, which offers the flexibility to make your wedding special and personal to you.

We held our wedding reception and party at the lovely Poet's House. The food was fantastic, as were the bar staff, and we had a perfect day. We hired the rooms out as part of a wedding package and everyone was blown away by how beautiful the rooms were, and very excited about using the copper baths! Thank you very much.
